Hetzner Webhosting: Configure access logs to save data

With Hetzner web hosting, first check the log and statistics functions provided. For the goal of “We don’t save!” Keep normal access logs only as long and as detailed as they are actually needed.

Requirements

Access to the Hetzner customer account and the settings of the affected web hosting package.

Setting

Select the log storage period as short as possible or deactivate unnecessary logging. The standard storage documented in the hosting comparison is seven days.

Test

After test calls, check which log data is actually available in the customer area and whether additional statistics services are activated.

Dismantling

If technical diagnostic information is missing, only reactivate the required logging and limit retention again.

Other log levels

Important: IP processing is not IP storage

An IP address has to be processed to establish and deliver a network connection. Hosting providers, firewalls or DDoS protection may also process or retain it for a limited time for security purposes. No Logging distinguishes this security layer from unnecessary persistent visitor logging by the website, application and ordinary access logs.
