Self-check your website
A privacy-friendly website starts by identifying what is actually stored and which third parties receive visitor data.
Browser side
- 1 Check cookies and local/session storage before and after consent.
- 2 Inspect network requests for analytics, advertising, fonts, video embeds, CDNs and other third parties.
- 3 Verify that rejecting optional tracking really prevents those requests.
Server side
- 4 Check web-server access and error logs.
- 5 Check application, framework, security and reverse-proxy logs separately.
- 6 Review retention periods and whether IP addresses or identifiers are necessary.
Principle
Do not ask only “is this allowed?” Also ask “do we need to retain it at all?”
